In an effort to turn this more in to a blog journal thing, Im gonna... well, make updates that you guys may care about for once.
As some of you may know, my family is moving.
Generic status report would entail that Dustin is still in Missouri, going to school and being a poor starving college student, the same for Cassandra who is in UT Arlington. Beth is still around, but by the end of summer will be moving with Cassandra in west-ish texas. Im 16, not quite old enough to move out on my own.
But regardless, downsizing is necessary. Having a smaller house with fewer people means less energy and less money spent on utilities and crap, so we can do all sorts'a crazy stuff now.
...
at the end of summer.
Backing up, We're moving.
One of the older couples in our church ward is heading out for about 18 months, some place like Samolia or New Africa or another generic expendable third-world country like unto them.
I dont remember where.
But for the sake of upkeep, they want someone to take care of their super-awesome house that they built (no, they built it themselves. its pretty cool.) out in the country.
and since downsizing is necessary in our family, We're going to, uh, 'take care' of their house while they're out.
which is an indirect way of saying 'moving in'.
so Last night, we discovered just how old those guys were. Their living room stereo involved like a 24" HD TV, LCD so its hung on an arm hinge dealie from the wall. up toward the cieling.
Saves some floor space, but being so small, you cant see a damn thing up there.
Moreover, they have a 4.1 stereo 'surround' system. Maybe we're overlooking some steps, but we cant get the two back satellite speakers to turn on for anything.
When using the TV signal, for cable and such, just the TV speakers are on. When using the karaoke machine they have (which they just use to play their casette tapes and audio CD's) then it uses the two main speakers.
The same goes for the VCR/DVD playin's.
No subwoofer.
I hooked up my MP3 player to it and turned on some simple game background music, and it sounded terrible.
static-y, low bass, very quiet.
So most of what happened last night was disassembling our current surround sound system and moving the components we had the patience to work with.
I can tell you from experience that setting up surround sound systems is no simple task.
But once you get it in right, it is AWESOME.
Oh, speaking of, This new house doesnt have much of a place for our relatively arse-huge TV.
It isnt one I would call big screen or awesome, just.. wider than most i've seen.
Anyway, theres no place for it in the other house, And we're tired of fixing it every year about this time.
After enough usage, the power cords fry, the colors fade, or SOMEthing goes wrong, causing much anger and monetary depletion to get it back up and running.
so Whoever it is we give this big TV to wont find it as awesome as they thought.
...
yeah.
Nothing else comes to mind, i'll throw in another update later, or tomorrow.
:D
